Power outages across San Diego County left thousands without power throughout the day Tuesday.
Several unplanned outages affected about 3,500 customers at various times and in different neighborhoods throughout the day. All were restored by 4 p.m., except for an outage caused by an object that was still affecting a few dozen people in Pacific Beach.
The largest of the outages affected about 1,700 San Diego Gas & Electric customers in Escondido around 2 p.m. but power was restored before 4 p.m. The cause was not known.
Power was restored before noon to another 1,700 customers from outages earlier in the day, which affected coastal communities from Solana Beach to Torrey Pines and Pacific Beach to Mission Bay. Outages in El Cajon La Mesa, Valley Center and Campo also affected a few hundred customers, all of which have been restored.
The cause of most outages was not known, but SDG&E did say Campo’s outage was caused by an animal. Severe weather was the culprit of at least one outage in the Torrey Pines area.
San Diego’s coast and valley communities were under a wind advisory from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to a cold October storm that was bringing showers and gusty winds to San Diego County.
