A cold front is on the move through South Florida and is expected to arrive by Saturday, bringing some relief and drier air to the region.
Friday morning kicked off with widespread storms in southern Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, along with lots of lightning in storms that sat off of the coast of Broward and Miami-Dade, too. Temperatures were in the upper 70s.
But in the afternoon, more off-and-on storms are expected. Some rain could be intense at times, which may lead to localized flooding threats. In addition, high tide flooding is still possible through the weekend.
Now, about that cold front.
Morning showers are expected ahead of the front, and then the drier air starts working in by the second half of the day.
The front won’t drop our temperatures too much during the day, but it will drop overnight lows along with the humidity. Lows fall into the low-70 degrees the next several days, which will feel nice and refreshing.
Then, dry and comfortable weather sticks around to end the weekend and several days into next week.
Tracking the Tropics
Tropical Storm Jerry is north of Anguilla this morning with rain, wind, and ruff surf impacting the northern Leeward Islands. This will pull north as the day continues and is forecast to remain a tropical storm through the weekend. It’s still on track to stay east of Bermuda and move out to sea.
We also have Subtropical storm Karen in the northern Atlantic. This system will fall apart within the next 24 hours or so. It’s subtropical based on it having a closed low pressure system with strong wind but very little thunderstorm activity with it in the cooler Atlantic waters.
