DENVER (KDVR) — The Westminster Police Department is renewing calls for motorists to stay sober behind the wheel after an allegedly impaired driver was arrested with open beer cans in his vehicle.
The agency said that “a few days ago” at about 1:30 a.m., officers were called to investigate a suspected drunk driver who had crashed into a median and continued driving with two flat tires.
The department said that officers located the driver — who was still driving — in an apartment complex’s parking lot near 80th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
Police attempted to contact the driver, who refused to stop, according to the Westminster Police Department. Officers then successfully used a precision immobilization technique to stop the suspected drunk driver and took the 25-year-old driver into custody.
The agency said the driver also had two active warrants for his arrest, but didn’t share what charges were included in the warrants.
Additionally, the arresting officers saw several opened and unopened beer cans in plain view — and within the driver’s reach — inside the car.
The agency thanked all citizens who reported the suspected drunk driver.
