Key things to know for CU vs. Iowa State

Top-ranked team

This is going to be the highest-ranked team CU has played so far this season. BYU currently sits ahead of Iowa State in the AP Top 25 at No. 18, but at the time of the game between CU and BYU, the school was only ranked No. 25.

This week, Iowa State is sitting at No. 22.

Fans with a good memory will remember that Iowa State was one of the top two teams to make it out of the Big 12 last season, when they played Arizona State after CU was knocked out of contention.

It could be time to show the growth of CU’s ability.

Just over the halfway mark

The Buffs are officially past halftime of the season. Hopefully somebody brought orange slices because things aren’t looking too great for the team right now.

In the first six games of the season, the Buffs went 2-4, which includes three losses in conference play, leaving the team at 0-3 in the Big 12 on the year.

Teams usually play 12 games a year, so here’s to hoping the Buffs can get things clicking in the latter six games of the season. Going 0-4 in conference would all but guarantee they don’t see a path to the postseason.

Buffs are close

This team really does look like it can turn the corner at any moment. The scores in the losses don’t always reflect the way the Buffs are playing.

They are always right in it, leading a decent chunk of the time, but the momentary lapses are the things that see the other teams pull away. If they can iron out a few of those wrinkles, the team is capable of winning games.
