AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Thursday, Attorney General Ken Paxton announced he would investigate the online chat platform Discord in relation to its use by the man accused of killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, according to the BBC.
An article posted by the British Broadcasting Corporation says a Discord representative confirmed that the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, wrote in part, “It was me at UVU…” in a message on the platform.
Paxton also said he was looking into reports of the platform being addictive and exposing minors to sexual exploitation and extremist content.

“Discord is deeply committed to safety and we require all users to be at least 13 to use our platform. We use a combination of advanced technology and trained safety teams to proactively find and remove content that violates our policies. We maintain strong systems to prevent the spread of sexual exploitation and grooming on our platform and also work with other technology companies and safety organizations to improve online safety across the internet,” a Discord spokesperson told KXAN.
Back in December 2024, Paxton previously launched an investigation into Discord and 14 other companies, regarding privacy and safety practices for minors in accordance with the SCOPE Act and the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act.
“I’m standing shoulder to shoulder with the Trump Administration to root out and defeat nihilistic violent extremism in all its forms,” said Paxton.
Paxton, back in April, announced he was running against Republican Sen. John Cornyn for his seat in 2026.
