BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Family Planning Center in Buffalo is slated to close its doors later this year pending approval by the New York State Department of Health, according to a spokesperson with Kaleida Health.
The healthcare network cited federal funding cuts, rising costs, and staffing shortages as reasons for the closure. Kaleida Health said they expect more uncompensated care costs due to recent Medicaid cuts in President Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill.
A $200 million plan aiming to reduce costs and enhance patient care was also launched by Kaleida earlier this year. A spokesperson said closing some services and locations are part of the plan.
“This forward-looking plan will help us build a stronger, more resilient healthcare system – one that can serve our community today and well into the future,” said President and CEO of Kaleida Health Don Boyd.
The Family Planning Center on Main Street in Buffalo provides STD and HIV testing, medical exams, free or low-cost birth control, and more.
