Saratoga Foliage Ride raises funds for bike recycling nonprofit

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Saratoga Regional YMCA is gearing up for the Saratoga Foliage Ride, a two-day cycling festival fundraiser on October 11 and 12. Raising money for the Bikeatoga workshop, riders from 13 different states and Canada will ride 30, 50, or 75 miles for the nonprofit with a mission to make bikes more accessible to the Saratoga Springs community.

Kicking off the picturesque ride on Saturday at 8 a.m. is the 75-mile ride, followed by groups of 50-mile and 30-mile cyclists at 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Cyclists who participate in the ride not only receive a catered lunch at the Saratoga Regional YMCA from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., but also can take part in the Saratoga Foliage Ride Happy Hour.

The happy hour celebration is at a handful of downtown bars, including Whitman Brewing Company, the Henry Street Taproom, Bocage Champagne Bar, Cooperstown Distillery, and Bibulous and Kindred. Participants are traveling from Florida, Texas, Ohio, and farther away for the 2025 Saratoga Foliage Ride.

The rides benefit a group of volunteer mechanics who support accessible transportation by refurbishing bikes and giving them back to community members for free or on a pay-what-you-can basis. In 2024, 700 bikes refurbished by Bikeatoga were given back to the community.

“Cycling tourism continues to be a growing market, and the Saratoga Foliage Ride is a wonderful example of how our community can attract visitors who want to experience the beauty of Saratoga County in an active and memorable way,” Discover Saratoga President Darryl Leggieri said. “With riders coming from across the country, this event not only showcases our stunning fall landscapes but also drives real economic impact for our local hotels, restaurants, and shops.”
