Florida school bus crash sends 8 students and bus driver to hospital, no serious injuries

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A school bus crash in Okeechobee on Monday morning sent several students and the bus driver to the hospital, Okeechobee County Schools said.

NBC affiliate WPTV reported that eight students on the bus were transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office said the bus collided with another vehicle at around 7 a.m. near an intersection on Highway 70, though they didn’t provide any more details about the circumstances of the crash.

The road was closed while first responders worked to rescue the victims and clear the scene, and the sheriff’s office said all occupants were quickly evacuated.

None of the victims had life-threatening injuries, but several were taken to a nearby hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” OCSO said.

The school district later confirmed that no one sustained serious injuries and thanked first responders for their quick response to the scene.
