Councilmember Brooke Pinto announces campaign for DC House delegate

D.C. Councilmember Brooke Pinto officially announced on Monday her campaign to run for the U.S. House delegate seat currently held by Eleanor Holmes Norton.

“In this moment, D.C. residents across the city are asking ourselves how we can stand up for D.C., fight for our future, and fight for our values,” Pinto said in a press release.

“I’m running for Congress to represent DC on Capitol Hill – to fight for our self governance, for a fair economy, for public safety, and for our families. We need leaders who are fighting for our city every single day and who have a proven track record of delivering tangible results for our residents.”

Pinto has represented Ward 2 since 2020.

The announcement comes after sources told News4 last week about her plans to run for the seat.

Holmes Norton has represented D.C. in Congress since 1991.

News4 reached out to Norton’s campaign office Monday. They provided no comment.

There have been multiple calls for Norton to retire at the end of this term. Some say the 88-year-old’s age impacts her ability to serve.

Norton has held the seat since 1991.

Last month, Norton told Axios that she would “of course” run for reelection.

Pinto now faces fellow councilmember Robert White for the congressional seat. White announced his campaign last month.
