SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Finding reliable, affordable child care is a national problem — and hundreds of experts came to San Diego to find new ways to fix it.
Hosted by San Diego–based child care tech company TOOTRiS, the inaugural Wind Beneath Your Wings Summit brought together more than 200 child care leaders and innovators from 33 states for two days of collaboration at the Hard Rock Hotel downtown.
The summit focused on the people working every day to make child care more accessible — Child Care Resource & Referral agencies (CCR&Rs) — and how new partnerships and technology can help scale their local successes into national impact.
Throughout the event, leaders shared ideas, challenges, and forward-looking strategies to strengthen child care for families, providers and employers alike. FOX 5/KUSI’s Danica McAdam moderated one of the key panels, guiding a conversation between parents and providers about their firsthand experiences and what real progress could look like.
The summit concluded with the Wings of Innovation Awards, where attendees voted live to award more than $10,000 in prizes to six standout CCR&R programs recognized for creative solutions addressing everything from rural access to infant care and policy reform
Organizers said the goal is to unite all corners of the child care network — from local agencies and providers to policymakers and employers — to reimagine what’s possible and strengthen the system for families nationwide.
