HAZELWOOD, Mo. – A logistics company says that 77 employees have lost their jobs, following the loss of an Amazon contract. Within the last month, another local company had to shut down for the same reason (the loss of Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner Program).
Chase Smiles Logistics’ facility in Hazelwood, MO, closed Sept. 15. The company has confirmed that the closure is permanent, and they do not plan to reopen.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) requires companies to provide notice of significant layoffs or closures, but the company says that they were unable to do so since the termination of the agreement was so sudden.
