WHITEHALL, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) reported that an animal abuse investigation is underway in Whitehall. The investigation stems from an incident at an apartment on Montcalm Avenue on October 1.
Deputies arriving to the residence on Wednesday to serve an eviction warrant reportedly found a dead kitten on the porch of the dwelling. After not being able to make contact with the apartment’s occupant, law enforcement worked with the property owner to gain access to the unit.
While executing a search warrant, detectives allegedly recovered four cats living in squalid conditions and eight dead cats within the apartment. Whitehall Animal Control and Washington County Code Enforcement officials assisted deputies at the scene.
The WCSO stated that charges are expected to be pursued in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Sherriff’s Office by calling (518)747-4623.
