NEW LENOX, Ill. — In a world where childbirth is one of life’s most personal and profound experiences, one family in New Lenox is proving that the bond between mothers and daughters can go even deeper–all the way to the delivery room.
As Lisa Abu-Samra, a certified midwife, welcomed her granddaughter into the world, she witnessed a full-circle moment, one that spans three generations.
It was anything but a normal day at the office at silver cross hospital when Lisa, a veteran certified midwife, donned her scrubs–not for a patient, but her own daughter, Yasmeen, who was in labor just down the hall.
Yasmeen, also a certified midwife, works side by side with her mom at the hospital and says she never questioned who she wanted to deliver her baby.
“There’s no other person I’d trust than my own mom,” she said.
The delivery room was filled with joy, and the kind of banter you only see among family.
But when it came time to bring new life into the world, it was all business.
“It’s different when patients choose me,” Lisa said. “And It’s a privilege but even more with my daughter.”
Lisa was the very first to lay eyes on and hold her healthy baby granddaughter. The moment was made even more meaningful by the date: the 60th wedding anniversary of Lisa’s own parents.
A legacy of care and connection, now carried on by both
Lisa and Yasmeen continue to work side by side as certified midwives, delivering new life every day, but none quite as special as this one.
