The Chicago Cubs were shut out by the San Diego Padres Wednesday, forcing a winner-take-all Game 3 on Thursday.
The issue is that the Cubs don’t know when that game will start.
In fact, the schedule for the Division Series is up in the air depending on the outcome of other series, and can be impacted by a number of factors, according to a press release from Major League Baseball on Wednesday.
Before getting to that point, the Cubs and Padres have to play a deciding third game, and the start time will be determined by the outcome of two games on Wednesday night.
Here’s how things could break down:
Thursday – Game 3
-If all four series are still ongoing, the Cubs and Padres would still play at 2:08 p.m., with the game airing on ABC.
-If the series between the Reds and Dodgers ends and the other three continue, the Cubs’ game would move to 4:08 p.m., airing on ESPN.
Game 1 of the National League Division Series
If the Cubs advance to play the Milwaukee Brewers in the Division Series, their start time on Saturday would depend on who wins the series between the Red Sox and Yankees.
If the Red Sox, who are up 1-0 in the best-of-three series, advance, the Cubs would play the Brewers at 8:08 p.m. Saturday night.
If the Yankees come back and win their series against Boston, the Cubs and Brewers would kick off the Division Series on Saturday at 1:08 p.m.
In either scenario, the game will air on TBS and truTV, and will stream on HBO Max.
The schedule for Game 2 of the Division Series has not yet been released. The game would take place on Monday, October 6.
Games 3 and 4 of the Division Series, which would take place at Wrigley Field if the Cubs advance, are scheduled for October 8 and 9, with a deciding Game 5, if necessary, taking place October 11.
