If you’re looking to drive through Topanga this weekend, keep in mind that Topanga Canyon Boulevard remains limited to one lane in some places and is fully closed to the public in others.
Topanga Canyon Boulevard — aka State Route 27 — between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive is an active work zone following the Palisades Fire and winter storms, Caltrans said in a news release.
“This 3.6-mile stretch of highway suffered major damage from the Palisades Fire and subsequent winter storms, including damaged storm drains, culverts, roadway signs and guardrail as well as slope stability features,” the agency said.
Caltrans is operating one-way traffic for nearly half a mile just south of Topanga from 5 a.m. to midnight each day.
Additionally, Southern California Edison is operating one-way traffic from Topanga Library north to Happy Trail, a distance of almost 2.5 miles, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.

Additionally, the entire affected stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard is closed to the public between midnight and 5 a.m. each day.
“All SR-27 users on this stretch of highway should be aware that this highway is not operating at normal capacity, and due to the nature of the winding road through a canyon, there is minimal space for motorists and workers to safely share the road,” the agency said.
Safety measures including guard rails, one-lane-road signs and rumble strips have been installed, and failure to heed these warnings could lead to a fine, which can be doubled in a construction zone.
“Drivers and bicyclists should proceed with caution, plan for extra travel time and are encouraged to seek alternate routes wherever possible. All users should expect delays,” the agency added.
