(KRON) — A man who allegedly attempted to bring drugs into a San Mateo County jail while visiting an inmate on Tuesday was arrested on site, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect, identified as Brian E. Siordia, 27, of San Jose, had previously been incarcerated in San Mateo County. Siordia entered the Maple Street Correctional Center in Redwood City at around 8 p.m. looking to visit an inmate, authorities said.
“Former incarcerated persons are required by law to receive approval to return to the facility,” the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said. “Siordia failed to obtain the required approval and was not legally permitted to be at the facility.”
Deputies arrested Siordia in the lobby for being at the facility unpermitted.
A search of Siordia after his arrest located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a cell phone that had been concealed in his shoe, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities noted that phones are not allowed in the secure areas of the facility.
Siordia was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for bringing controlled substances into a jail facility, possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized presence on jail grounds and bringing communication devices into jail.
