Raging Bull reopening date announced at Six Flags Great America

Six Flags Great America announced the reopening date for one of their most popular roller coasters.

The hyper coaster Raging Bull closed on August 18th to receive a fresh coat of paint. On Tuesday, the park announced that the painting is done, the ride has been tested, and it will make its debut back into service on Friday, October 3rd.

Six Flags Great America kept the ride’s orange and purple color scheme the same, but fans who haven’t been to the park since the ride’s closure will notice how much that new paint pops in the sunlight. In order to paint the 202 foot-tall roller coaster, the crews from Million Painting needed:

  • 350 gallons of purple paint for the support columns.
  • 240 gallons of orange paint for the track.
  • 10 pressure washers.
  • 900 total brushes, rollers and roller covers.
  • About 10 painters with a fleet of aerial boom lifts and cable-powered spider baskets.

We paid a visit to the site as they were working on the job and got an up close look . You can see our full report here.

Raging Bull is 202 feet tall and features more than 5,000 feet of track, making it the longest ride in the park. It opened to the public in 1999. This is the second coat of fresh paint the ride has received since its opening day.
