A surveillance camera captured a thief jumping over a gate and stealing a Range Rover from the driveway of a Tamiami home.
Caridad Gomez said she didn’t hear anything from inside the house on Sunday, but her son did.
“My son heard a noise, a loud noise,” Gomez said. “He said, ‘Mom, are you taking the car?’ I said no. He said, ‘Mommy, someone is stealing the car.’”
Gomez said the loud noise was someone stealing her Range Rover, but by the time they got outside, it was too late.
“I feel frustrated, I feel very bad,” Gomez said.
When Gomez watched her neighbor’s surveillance video, she saw someone get out of a black car and jump over her gate.
Her SUV was locked, and the key was inside her house, but somehow this person was able to get in and turn it on.
Then, seconds later, Gomez said the person inside her SUV slammed into her Mercedes.
Then the video shows another person getting out of the car and forcing the gate open so their accomplice can drive away.
Gomez and her sons went searching for her Range Rover, but no luck.
“I know that it happens, but I never thought it could happen to us, and that’s why I want to tell the people and the neighbors that they can do something like that to anybody,” Gomez said.
Gomez wants to get the word out so her neighbors and the community are aware, but she wants her car back, and she has a message for the people who stole it.
“Avoid doing that anymore, learn how to work,” Gomez said. “They are coming to good neighborhoods to steal what they have sacrificed their life to have.”
Gomez reported the theft. NBC6 reached out to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for information on the investigation.
