BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — As the Section VI football regular season reaches its halfway point, two of Western New York’s biggest rivals open Monsignor Martin league play in a big game to highlight the slate we’re watching in Week 4.
Sweet Home (2-1) at West Seneca West (3-0)
7 p.m. Friday
The reigning section champions visit the unbeaten A-1 division leaders. Sweet Home shut out Frontier 21-0 last week while West Seneca West held off Clarence 21-14. West Seneca West freshman quarterback Mason Anderson is seventh in WNY with 549 passing yards in three games.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton (3-0) at Clymer/Sherman/Panama (2-1)
1:30 p.m. Saturday
Ty Harper, the coach who led CSP to a state championship last season, returns on the opposing sideline with a new title contender. CLWB is ranked area small schools after shutting out Springville 44-0. In the loaded Class C-2 division, WNY No. 10 CSP lost 21-14 last week against at No. 4 Salamanca and still has to play at No. 2 Southwestern/Frewsburg in a few weeks.
Jamestown (2-1) at Orchard Park (1-2)
2 p.m. Saturday
Jamestown is coming off a thrilling 33-27 comeback win over Lancaster in which Connolly Cup nominee Lucas Diaz returned an interception 33 yards for the winning score. Jherek Breske had 195 total yards and two touchdowns in Orchard Park’s 34-0 rout of Lockport after gaining 201 in a close loss against Lancaster the week before.
St. Joe’s (2-1) at Canisius (1-2)
2 p.m. Saturday at Stransky Sports Complex
A rematch of last season’s Monsignor Martin title game will be the 103rd meeting in this rivalry. Canisius has won the last 11 and 21 of 22. St. Joe’s has a win against Jamestown under its belt. Canisius running back Elijah Kimble needs 118 yards to break the school record held by NFL draft pick Quadree Ollison, and 148 yards would put Kimble in WNY’s all-time top 20 before the midway point of his junior season.
