WATCH: Task force clears South Los Angeles encampment

Cleanup crews were in South Los Angeles on Tuesday, targeting homeless encampments as part of California’s State Action for Facilitation on Encampments Task Force.

The work alongside the northbound 110 Freeway between 87th and 92nd streets and along 88th Place is the SAFE Task Force’s first cleanup in Southern California.

According to Tara Gallegos, a spokesperson for Gov. Gavin Newsom, 15 people who were at the site have accepted shelter.

In addition, more help is available at a resource fair at nearby Jesse Owens Park.

Anetta Kidane, senior director of Inside Safe L.A., said 32 unhoused people agreed to receive services, which are offered by city and county agencies, as well as other service providers.

“We’re happy to help guide them, stabilize them and get them on their journey to permanent supportive housing,” Kidane told KTLA’s Gene Kang.
