Unhoused population jumps by 56% in Mountain View

(KRON) — The City of Mountain View says that the number of unhoused people has increased by 56%, compared to 2023.

The city pinpoints the increase to people living out of their cars and recreational vehicles (RVs), and “lack of affordable housing and limited temporary shelters and programs in Santa Clara County and the greater Bay Area.”

It also says commuters who have homes elsewhere are living in these vehicles while working in the Mountain View area.

Across Santa Clara County, homelessness “including both sheltered and unsheltered individuals,” has risen a little over 8% since 2023, according to officials.
