WEG announces $77M expansion in Missouri, 50 new jobs

WASHINGTON, Mo. – WEG, a global leader in transformer production, announced a $77 million expansion in Washington, Missouri, that will create 50 new jobs.

The expansion looks to increase WEG’s capacity to meet the demands of its Utility and Clean Energy customers.

“We’re proud to see yet another innovative manufacturer like WEG continuing to grow in Missouri,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “This company’s success in Washington is the latest example of our state’s ability to support leading employers.”

Phillip James, Vice President of WEG Transformers USA, highlighted the importance of the expansion, saying, “This expansion and modernization of this particular business is a major investment by WEG to provide our customers and our team members the capacity and facilities to succeed in today’s market.”

Michelle Hataway, Director of the Department of Economic Development, noted the positive impact of WEG’s decision to grow locally, saying, “WEG’s ongoing success in Washington is providing new investment, more jobs, and greater opportunities.”

The new jobs created by WEG’s expansion will offer wages above the county average, according to the release.

With this expansion, WEG will also benefit from the Missouri Works program, which is a tool that helps companies expand and retain workers by providing them tax credits and other incentives.
