Padres earn spot in playoffs after beating Brewers

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Padres on Monday clinched a playoff berth following a 5-4 win against the Milwaukee Brewers in extra innings.

In the top of the 11th inning, Petco Park went into a frenzy after Padres catcher Freddy Fermin hit a walk-off single to score leftfielder Bryce Johnson.

The game-winning hit was set up by Padres shortstop Jose Iglesias’ sacrifice bunt to put Johnson on third base.

Iglesias finished the game with one home run and one RBI. Both designated hitter Gavin Sheets and Luis Arráez also contributed with an RBI each.

The Padres went through six pitchers after starting pitcher Nick Pivetta pitched 5.2 innings.

The Padres next game is on Tuesday evening at Petco Park against the Brewers.
