Democratic reps, unions rally for Kimmel in Hollywood

Legislators and union members are rallying in Hollywood on Monday in support of suspended talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Five Southern California Democrats—U.S. Representatives Laura Friedman, Ted Lieu, Judy Chu, Nanette Barragán, and Gil Cisneros—will be joined by representatives from the Writers Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, and other unions when they gather across the street from Kimmel’s studio on the Walk of Fame.

Kimmel’s show was suspended a week ago after he commented on the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and partisan reaction to the assassination.

President Trump’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr threatened regulatory action against broadcasters who carried Kimmel’s show. Nexstar Media Group, the parent company of KTLA, also announced it would pull Kimmel from its ABC-affiliated stations saying it strongly objected to the recent comments made by Kimmel.

Another major broadcaster, Sinclair, also pulled Kimmel’s program from its ABC stations.

ABC’s parent company, Disney, suspended Kimmel’s show entirely, prompting bipartisan concern, even from Trump allies like U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.

Attendees at Monday’s rally are also expected to discuss the financial impact Kimmel’s suspension has on entertainment industry workers and the local economy.
