NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (WFLA) — The New Port Richey Police Department said it is investigating an “incident” involving two of the city’s public works employees.
The city confirmed to 8 On Your Side that one person was killed and another was injured while performing routine maintenance. The employee who was injured was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later released.
A spokesperson for the police department said it happened at a lift station near the intersection of Bandura Avenue and Ashmore Drive. Lift stations are part of the wastewater and sewage management systems operated by the city.
No additional information was provided on the nature of the incident, but police said it looks like whatever happened was accidental.
The identity of the person killed is being withheld while officials work to notify their family. More details about the incident will be released on Tuesday, police said.
