SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The expansion project at Westfield UTC mall in University City is nearing its completion, with a phased opening expected sometime early next year.
The project, which began in April 2024, is underway on the north side of the shopping center near La Jolla Village Drive. The work is being done on the location formerly held by Nordstrom before the department store moved to its current site on the west side of the mall near Genesee Avenue.

Westfield UTC’s website states the nearly 70,000-square-foot expansion will cement the mall’s position “as one of the most significant luxury and designer shopping destinations in Southern California.”
It is expected to bring more luxury brands and two restaurants on La Jolla Village Drive as well as an additional valet.

Currently, Westfield UTC features several luxury retailers, including Hermès, Louis Vuitton, a Chanel fragrance and beauty store, Zadig & Voltaire and Tiffany & Co.
Aside from high-end clothing and accessory brands, the mall also houses several high-end furniture brands such as Arhaus, Crate & Barrel, CB2 and Pottery Barn.
Upon completion, the expansion will bring the luxury home furnishings brand, Restoration Hardware (known as RH) near the food court, along with a Chanel fashion boutique, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera and others.
