Buffalo man arrested in connection with burglaries of Casa Azul, Sato

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was arrested in connection with burglaries of Elmwood Avenue restaurants Casa Azul and Sato, which took place this month, police announced.

Sato on Elmwood Avenue reported that an unknown male entered the restaurant and stole around $3,500 overnight on Sept. 7. He was also reportedly seen on camera entering the restaurant again in the early morning on Sept. 17, but did not take anything, police said.

On Sept. 20, Casa Azul reported that an unknown male broke a window to enter the restaurant and stole approximately $1,200 overnight. He also allegedly broke the window to a property next door, but did not enter.

Calvin Laster, 68, was found to be the suspect in the incidents and was charged with the following:

  • two counts of third-degree burglary
  • one count of third-degree grand larceny
  • one count of fourth-degree grand larceny
  • one count of third-degree criminal mischief
  • one count of third-degree trespassing
