CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A homicide investigation is underway in Carlsbad after a woman was fatally shot Friday night in the parking lot of a local apartment complex, authorities confirmed.

According to the Carlsbad Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:53 p.m. on Sept. 19 in the 2300 block of Rising Glen Way. When officers arrived, they found an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the victim’s vehicle was stolen during the incident. Using License Plate Reader technology, the vehicle was later located in Newport Beach by officers from the Newport Beach Police Department. A pursuit ensued, which ended in an officer-involved shooting. The driver, identified as a person of interest in the homicide case, was reportedly struck during the confrontation.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is now investigating the officer-involved shooting.
Authorities believe the incident was isolated and say there is no ongoing threat to the Carlsbad community. The name of the victim has not been released, and the investigation remains active.
