‘Really sad': Neighbors disappointed after vandals ruin playground in Delaware

A small town is facing a big problem.

The relatively new playground in Farmington, Delaware, has been shut down after it was repeatedly hit by vandals.

“It’s really sad. Kids don’t have nothing to do anyways, so it’s really sad,” one neighbor said. “It’s a shame. I hope they get caught.”

The playground and its basketball court has seen vandals leave empty liquor bottles and broken equipment in their wake.

“It’s crazy. Probably some young kids or something doing some nonsense shouldn’t be like this honestly,” Farmington resident Troy Creed said.

Local police officers will swing by when they get calls but so far, no one has been arrested.

None of the Farmington residents said that they think its the local kids behind the damage, but their theory is that its teenagers or young adults who meet at this park.

The old school house attached to the park now has its windows boarded up after vandals kept shooting the glass with BB guns.

Police and town leaders said they are working to find who has caused the vandalism.

They mayor told NBC10 that her office has been doing research about putting up cameras in the area.

For now, the playground remains closed to everyone.
