DENVER (KDVR) — Outdoor warning sirens are set to go off for three minutes in a handful of areas in Boulder County on Friday morning.
New warning sirens have been installed across the county, and they will be part of a systemwide test at 10 a.m.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that there are 20 new, upgraded warning sirens in the following areas:
- Eldorado Springs
- Erie
- Jamestown
- Lafayette
- Louisville
- Lyons
- Marshall
- Superior
The test will make sure the sirens are working properly so they can alert the community in the event of emergencies like weather events, hazardous materials and wildfires.
The sirens are meant to reach people who are outside and not indoors. The sheriff’s office said people will hear five short beeps followed by a voice message saying “this is a test,” and a siren tone.
The sheriff’s office also encourages residents to have an emergency preparedness plan and sign up for emergency alerts to be notified of emergencies via phone call, text or email.
