Bennett school district lockdown lifted after 'suspicious' person found to be contractor

DENVER (KDVR) — Schools in the Bennett School District 29J are no longer on lockdown after a report of a suspicious person on the school campus on Thursday. There was no threat to the campus.

The school district said it went into lockdown at 12:06 p.m. after a student reported a “suspicious individual” on the high school campus. Officers arrived at 12:07 p.m. and began investigating.

Officers found that the individual was a professional services contractor who had already been cleared by the front office to work on the building, the school district said in a post on Facebook.

In a follow-up post, the district said that a student had seen the contractor carrying their materials and thought it was a threat.

“The student did everything they were supposed to and reported it, which in turn, the school immediately went into lockdown- since we share one campus, when one school goes into lockdown, all buildings will as well,” the district said.

The district said that it is protocol for all agencies in the area to respond when there is a lockdown, and clear each building and room regardless of findings to ensure safety and uphold protocol.
