ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An Army veteran from Wentzville was laid to rest with full military honors Thursday afternoon at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
David F. Oliver passed away on Sunday, June 15, of natural causes. He was 66.
Oliver served in the U.S. Army between May and October 1980, according to a statement from the St. Charles County government. Though he was honorably discharged, little else is known about his service.
Following his Army stint, Oliver worked for a small business in O’Fallon building bird houses. For the next 15 years, he assembled purple martin bird houses. By then, the company opened a printing shop, and Oliver was put in charge of shipping and receiving. He kept that job until his death.
One of Oliver’s coworkers described him as “a very kind soul” and “a nice gentleman.”
According to the county, Oliver was adopted at a young age, and both adopted parents died before him. He never married and had no children.
Oliver was living at a Super 8 Motel on West Terra Lane in Wentzville.
Since Oliver’s death in June, his body had been in the possession of the Office of Regional Medical Examiner while waiting for next of kin to claim him. No one ever came to claim the body.
Hoffmeister South County Chapel handled the funeral arrangements.
