31-year-old man sentenced in murder of food delivery driver

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 31-year-old man was sentenced to 40 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the murder of a DoorDash driver, 30-year-old Shawn Joseph, who went missing in 2023, according to the Round Rock Police Department.

The man sentenced was identified as Royce Loggins, police said in a news release.

The release said officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Walmart parking lot in October 2023, located on East Palm Valley Boulevard. Police said there was “blood and personal items” found near the vehicle, which belonged to Joseph’s mother. She told police Joseph had used “the vehicle the night before to make food deliveries and had not returned home.

RRPD said it used “a combination of digital evidence, surveillance footage, and license plate recognition technology” to identify Loggins as a person of interest in the case.

Police said Loggins was later found and arrested at a hotel in Haltom City, which is near Fort Worth. He was found with “two firearms and cleaning supplies.” One of the firearms Loggins had “was later confirmed to be the murder weapon.”

“Further analysis of electronic data led investigators to a rural area in Milam County. During a coordinated multi-agency search, Joseph’s body was located, and an autopsy confirmed he died from a single gunshot wound to the head,” police said.

“We know nothing can fully heal the pain Shawn’s family carries, but we hope this resolution offers them some comfort and closure,” said Police Chief Allen Banks
