Video: Benihana worker fights security guard inside Southern California restaurant

A chaotic scene unfolded at a Benihana restaurant in Torrance on Monday night as an employee and a security guard got into a fight in an incident that was caught entirely on video.

According to the Torrance Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Benihana located in the 21300 block of Hawthorne Boulevard at 8 p.m. for a disturbance call.

“Preliminary information indicates there was a dispute between management and an employee,” said TPD Lt. Ahmad. “Security guards on-site helping management remove the employee from the business became involved in a physical altercation.”

Video obtained by KTLA shows diners getting up hurriedly as the security guard and the employee began fighting, with the employee throwing a plate at the guard. Other patrons were seen trying to intervene as the altercation spilled across the restaurant.

Lt. Ahmad confirmed to KTLA that the security guard suffered minor injuries as a result of the scuffle but was not transported.

The employee, meanwhile, left the scene before officers arrived. The footage obtained by KTLA shows him walking out after the security guard successfully restrained him.

A crime report was taken, police said; however, no arrest was made, and the incident remains under investigation.

Information obtained by news stringer service TNLA indicates that the employee refused to serve a table, and the altercation occurred after management told him he was fired.

That report was not confirmed by law enforcement.
