A military special operations mission in the waters of San Diego Bay, Saturday, raised awareness and money for programs to help veterans.
108 participants representing the Navy SEALs, Green Berets, DELTA Force, and the Marine Raiders started with a run down Coronado Beach on their way to Glorietta Bay. That’s where they entered the water for a 3-mile swim to the U.S.S. Midway.
The Honor Foundation is a national non-profit organization with a San Diego chapter. It offers elite troop members a three month intensive education on a campus environment. There is also one-on-one career coaching and professional development resources.
“Particularly this community, their mission (at Naval Base Coronado) is really intense. We help them find what their purpose in life is going to be after they are done serving our country,” said Michael Kendall, an Honor Foundation board member, and one of the civilians who joined Saturday’s swim.

Kevin Seiff retired from the U.S. Navy SEALs in 2020. He completed the aftercare executive program.
“It gives you a lot of tools, and a lot of resources. More importantly, (it gave me) a network of supporters to rely on and build a plan. You can actually figure out what you want to do,” Seiff said.
He and his wife, Kristen, have since opened their own business. The couple owns and operates a family bakery in Encinitas.
“He’s not meant for an office. He’s not happy in that setting,” Kristen told NBC 7. “So, (the Foundation’s training) has improved our family life a ton and made it a fun roller coaster, honestly,” she said.
Each person registered for the swim event committed to raise at least $1,500. Donations are still being accepted to support the veterans.
