'The Prince of Egypt' musical based on DreamWorks film comes to California

(FOX 5/KUSI) — A stage musical adaptation of the 1998 animated film, “The Prince of Egypt,” is bringing the biblical story of the Book of Exodus to California theatergoers with a premiere in north San Diego County.

“The Prince of Egypt” musical, which made its regional debut at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista this week, features Stephen Schwartz’ iconic soundtrack from the DreamWorks animated film of the same name.

It includes the song, “When You Believe,” which was famously recorded for the 1998 film soundtrack in a first-time duet by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

The musical retells the story of Moses, who was born a Hebrew but adopted by the Egyptians and raised alongside Rameses, the heir to the throne of Egypt.
