Restaurant group caps beer prices at $5 in Schenectady, Saratoga Springs

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A beer may look a little cheaper at some eateries and venues in Schenectady and Saratoga Springs, according to a local restaurant group. Starting Wednesday, all draft and bottled beer prices at Electric City Hospitality Group locations will be capped at $5.

The initiative, dubbed “Drinkin’ for a Lincoln,” will go into effect at The Broken Inn in Niskayuna, The Parlor at the Schenectady Municipal Golf Course, The Horses Lounge in Schenectady and The Comedy Works Comedy Club in Saratoga Springs. Any future Electric City Hospitality Group locations will also abide by the cap.

Proprietor Tommy Nicchi said the price change will be permanent and will apply to all beers, all day, everyday. The moves comes after he realized the “unconscionable” prices people were paying for a drink.

“A beer shouldn’t cost you half an hour’s pay,” Nicchi said. “We’re not taking care of the customer, we’re taking advantage of them.”

The Electric City Hospitality Group offers 52 draft lines across its four current establishments. According to Nicchi, the price cap will have “minimal” effect on what products are offered, with Guinness, Stella Artois and other popular options also donning the $5 price tag.

“Yeah, we’re gonna make a little less money on a Guinness, but we’re going to make the customer happier and we’re going to sell more of them,” Nicchi said.
