BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo Museum of Science is gearing up for BubbleFEST, one of its most popular events, and this year’s celebration is extra special.
The museum is marking the 20th anniversary of the bubbly event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with a special VIP hour for members from 9 to 10 a.m.
Visitors will find bubbles of all shapes and sizes, from small ones you can hold to giant bubbles big enough to step inside.
“The number one thing you’re going to see when you’re coming into the Buffalo Museum of Science for BubbleFEST is going to be, of course, bubbles,” said Ben Frawley, the museum’s facilitator of learning. “We put people, especially the kids, inside of bubbles, and we use that bubble solution to really take a look at some of the household materials that are all around us that can give us a deeper look into science.”
Frawley said the event is designed to spark curiosity and show children how science connects to their everyday lives.
“Getting kids to see how it applies to their real world lives and maybe ways that they can take that science home with them gives kids a really good jumping off point,” he said.
But BubbleFEST isn’t just for kids. This year, organizers are also hosting BubbleFEST After Dark on Friday night, a 21+ event that turns the museum into a bubble-filled playground for adults. Guests can enjoy all the bubble stations, the foam zone, music and drinks that are available for purchase.
“It brings people back, it brings people together,” said Gary Siddall, the museum’s president and CEO. “Whether you have a child who’s growing a little bit older and experiencing it as a kid, or if you have a new member of the household who’s looking to explore science for the first time, this is a great way to do that.”
