ST. LOUIS – A man accused of striking a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) officer is set to appear in court Wednesday for a bond review at the Carnahan Courthouse.
Frank Carr, 62, is accused of driving a Cadillac that struck SLMPD officer Nathan Spiess and a teenage carjacking suspect on I-70 during a chaotic pursuit in March. Spiess, a six-year veteran of SLMPD, was attempting to take a suspect into custody when he was hit.
Following the crash, police say Carr fled the scene but later confessed to having his car towed to a body shop. Surveillance video and license plate records were instrumental in leading investigators to Carr.
Officer Spiess was seriously injured in the crash, undergoing at least three surgeries, including the amputation of part of his leg. Carr was later released on a $3,000 cash-only bond and placed under house arrest with work hours in April. The court will review these terms during the bond hearing.
Court records indicate that Carr is also scheduled for a counsel status hearing on Nov. 7, suggesting that prosecutors are actively advancing the case.
