Bowling alley restaurant in Walnut Creek abruptly closes months after opening

(KRON) — Walnut Creek resident Ayisha Stweart planned to go out Monday evening at Broadway Plaza to enjoy a meal at Pinstripes. However, she and her friend walked up to the front door to find out that the bowling alley and restaurant had abruptly closed.

“Shocked,” Stewart said. “We’re here quite a bit. The food is really good. The service is good — just like shocked.”

Pinstripes in downtown Walnut Creek was indeed shut down and permanently closed, the company confirmed to KRON4. The Midwest-based chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and it intends to facilitate a sale for its remaining locations “as quickly as possible.”

The final day of service was held on Sunday, Sept. 7. Pinstripes’ closure comes less than 10 months after it opened in the popular East Bay outdoor shopping center last November.

Pinstripes sent the following statement to KRON4.

With the support of our senior secured lenders, Pinstripes Holdings, Inc. and certain affiliates (the “Company”) filed voluntary chapter 11 petitions, pursuant to which we will seek to run a Court-approved marketing and sale process.  In connection therewith, we have a committed buyer for our continuing locations, and we will continue to market our assets as a going concern to maximize value.  This decision was made to strengthen our financial foundation by reducing liabilities – including closing certain locations – to ensure business continuity and to position the Company for long-term success and growth. During this process, which we intend to move through as quickly as possible, the Company will continue to operate as usual, serving our customers, working with our partners and supporting our team members. Any gift cards or event deposits will be honored at continuing locations, and we are confident this step will allow us to emerge stronger and better positioned to serve guests and stakeholders in the future.

There remains one Pinstripes location in the Bay Area: San Mateo. As of now, that location appears to still be open, according to Pinstripes’ website. Pinstripes said that gift cards or event deposits for shuttering restaurants “will be honored at continuing locations.”

Back in June, according to reports, Pinstripes was warning of possibly closing all its U.S. locations due to its plan to file for bankruptcy.

Pinstripes was founded in Chicago in 2007.
