(KRON) — A woman and a dog were found shot to death inside a Santa Rosa residence early Tuesday morning. A second dog was found shot and injured at the scene, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Santa Rosa PD said officers responded around 4:30 a.m. to the 1400 block of Cecilia Drive on a report of gunshots heard near a specific residence. Officers arrived on the scene and found an open back gate at the residence and a shattered rear sliding glass door.
Responding officers made several unsuccessful attempts to contact residents. Using an interior drone, officers discovered the first dog, deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, along with the second injured dog.
The victim, a woman, was found on the stairs deceased, having suffered at least one gunshot wound, police said. No additional victims or people were found at the house.
The suspect was not located at the scene, nor was the firearm used.
Santa Rosa PD Violent Crimes Investigations Team (VC) detectives responded and took over the investigation. A preliminary investigation, police said, indicated it was a targeted incident. Detectives are actively investigating the incident as a homicide and working to identify suspects.
Detectives believe the incident was isolated and do not consider there to be an ongoing threat to the public. Police provided no immediate word on the condition of the second dog that was found shot and injured.
The incident, according to police, was Santa Rosa’s 10th homicide of 2025, compared to just two in all of last year.
