Northglenn providing 'Free Landfill Day'

DENVER (KDVR) — The city of Northglenn will be providing a “Free Landfill Day” on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tower Road Landfill in Commerce City.

Northglenn provides two free landfill days each year, including one in the spring and one in the fall, according to the city, which said the days are a perfect opportunity for residents to dispose of items that cannot fit in a trash can.

Residents interested in taking advantage of the free landfill day are allowed one covered load per residence and must bring with them proof of city residency. A safety vest must also be worn when unloading any items, according to the city, which said vests are provided at the entrance of the landfill.

The entrance to Tower Road Landfill is located at 19260 E. 88th Ave. The city notes that pickup trucks or trailers with more than five cubic yards of materials will face a gate charge.

Items that can be disposed of during the free landfill day, according to the city, include:

  • Household trash
  • Furniture
  • Appliances — including those with freon
  • Construction materials
  • Yard waste
  • Fencing

Mattresses and box springs can also be disposed of, but will cost $37 each, the city said.

Items prohibited from being disposed of during the free landfill day, according to the city, include:

  • Electronics
  • Hazardous materials
  • Medical waste
  • Ammunition
  • Fireworks
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Tires
  • Oil
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Liquids of any kind

Northglenn residents who don’t take advantage of the city’s free landfill day are still able to use the landfill on other days, but must pay, with single cars facing an estimated minimum charge of $64, with fees.
