7News Boston WHDH has named a replacement for a longtime anchor at the local station.
Evening anchor Jadiann Thompson — who has been with 7News for a decade — will be taking over for Kim Khazei.
Thompson and Adam Williams will co-anchor 7News at 5, 6, 10 and 11 p.m. on WHDH and 7News at 10 p.m. on WLVI (CW).
Thompson has anchored 7News at 4, 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 9 p.m. for the last nine years.
“7News at 9 p.m. is a viewer favorite in Boston and Jadiann is an important part of that,” WHDH-TV/WLVI-TV Vice President and General Manager Jimmy Rogers said in a statement.
“We’re thrilled to expand her time on the anchor desk in our late-night newscasts,” Rogers added. “Jadiann is a dedicated and experienced journalist. She and Adam will make an excellent team.”
Thompson a few weeks ago celebrated her 10 years at 7News.
“What a decade it’s been!” she posted on social media. “I had never been to Boston before. I moved here on a weekend and started work on Monday and now it’s home! Thank you to all the viewers who make me feel like I have family here.”
Khazei is one of the original members of the 7News team, joining the station in 1994.
Khazei recently announced that she’ll be signing off this month. Khazei had her three children while working at the station, and she left in 2001 to raise them full-time. Then six years later, she returned to the WHDH newsroom.
Khazei now has a grandchild, and she’s moving to be closer to her growing family.

Her longtime co-anchor is Williams, who will now co-anchor with Thompson.
“Jadiann helped launch our 9 p.m. news in 2017, and it quickly became one of the highest rated newscasts in Boston,” said Linda Miele, vice president of news for WHDH and WLVI.
“It was a big early win for our station in the first weeks of going independent and years later it continues to be a market leader,” Miele added. “With this move more viewers can count on Jadiann to get them caught up as they wind down their day.”
Before coming to Boston, Thompson reported and anchored in Kansas City, Phoenix and Casper, Wyoming.
She has also been an executive producer and an assistant news director.
Thompson often volunteers with organizations working to cure ALS. She rode her bike 280 miles over three days to raise money for ALS research and in tribute to her grandmother who died from the disease.
While in Boston, she has reported on potential ALS breakthroughs by local scientists and worked closely with the Peter Frates ALS Foundation.
