50+ mph damaging winds, hazardous weather conditions heading for the area

Damaging winds, thunderstorms and snow showers could hit the Chicago area Sunday evening and early Monday.

The National Weather Service predicts a “variety of hazardous weather conditions” starting Sunday night and into Monday morning.

A tornado warning was issued for Southeastern Iroquois County in east central Illinois and rotations were spotted on radar near Stockland, Illinois shortly after 4 p.m. Fox 32 Chicago reported a rain-wrapped tornado was spotted in southern Kankakee County around the same time.

In the city, meteorologists are expecting 45 to 55 mph “damaging” and “strong” winds, with a wind advisory extending until 3 p.m. Monday. Temperatures could also drop overnight into the teens with subzero wind chills.

Snow showers are also possible early Monday and could drop an inch of snow, according to the weather service.

Dense fog, scattered rain and thunderstorms will continue Sunday morning and into the afternoon with heavy downpours and possible hail, the weather service said.

The Chicago Department of Buildings issued an advisory to businesses and construction managers to limit outside construction and secure work sites.
