4 students hospitalized after taking edibles at Margate Middle School: Cops

Four students were hospitalized after they took some sort of edibles at Margate Middle School on Wednesday, police said.

Margate Police said 7-8 students were exposed to “laced, edible snacks” at the school on Northwest 65th Avenue.

Four of the students were hospitalized while the rest were released to their parents, police said. All were in stable condition.

Police said they don’t know what kind of edibles the students ate but it appeared they contained marijuana.

In a statement, a Broward County Public Schools spokesperson said school and district administrators are working with authorities to determine the source of the food and ensure student safety.

“Parents are reminded to speak to their child(ren) about not sharing or eating food or candy that does not come from home and to report anything concerning to a trusted adult,” the statement read, in part.

An investigation was ongoing.
