HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WLFA) — Two top officials have left the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the agency’s website, Captain Lora Rivera was the deputy division commander for the professional standards bureau, and Major James Jackson was the district commander of court operations. They’ve been scrubbed from the sheriff’s office website.
“Upon notification of an internal affairs investigation, into Major James Jackson, he retired,” a spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said. “Due to the ongoing investigation, we can not provide further comment.”
Jackson’s last day was on Thursday.
HCSO said Lora Rivera resigned. Her last day was also Thursday.
In recent months, there’s been an upheaval at the sheriff’s office. Former Chief Deputy Anthony Collins resigned four months after his historic promotion.
“He paid somebody to do his coursework at the prestigious FBI National Academy,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
Collins resigned in July after Chronister said he admitted to academically cheating while at the National FBI Academy, which only 3% of law enforcement have the opportunity to attend.
“[Collins] did apologize,” Chronister said. “He said he would never do anything out of his love for me, out of his respect for me, to dishonor his position at the office.”
The sheriff’s office said the investigation into Jackson is “unrelated to any cheating on FBI coursework.”
