NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (WGN) — An investigation is underway at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago after two people were found dead in Navy housing Friday night.
According to officials, the bodies of a sailor and another individual were discovered, though neither has been publicly identified.
The North Chicago Police Department is leading the investigation, and the cause of death has not yet been released.
A spokesperson for the base said they are mourning the loss of their service member and the other individual, and grief counseling is being made available to anyone in need of support.
Naval Station Great Lakes’ full statement reads:
“We are aware of an incident that occurred Friday, Oct. 10, in Navy housing, where a service member and another individual were found deceased.
We mourn the loss of our shipmate and extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of the Sailor and the other individual involved. Our thoughts are with all those affected during this difficult time.
Grief counseling and support services are available through the chain of command and the command chaplain.”
