A 13-year-old boy was killed and several other teens were hospitalzed after suspects opened fire in a Santa Ana neighborhood.
On Sept. 8, Santa Ana police responded to a shooting near 400 South Susan Street around 8:20 p.m. Witnesses said the teens were listening to music when a car suddenly pulled up and opened fire.
A 13-year-old boy was shot in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Three additional teens aged 14, 15 and 16 were also found with gunshot wounds. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment and are expected to survive.
The suspect or suspects involved fled the scene before police arrived. Investigators believe the motive to be gang-related.
The 13-year-old victim was identified by family members as Adrian Torres.
“Adrian died on the scene and never got a chance to fight for his life,” his loved ones wrote on a GoFundMe page. “Adrian was so much more than a victim of violence, he was a loving son, a protective older cousin, and a bright, kind-hearted boy. Our family is grieving this unimaginable loss.”
Homicide detectives are working to identify additional witnesses who may have information about the deadly drive-by shooting.
