11/09/2025: On & Off Rain Sunday, Then Turning Cold

The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:

It’s not a total washout Sunday, but outdoor activities will need to be ready for periods of showers. Some rain will linger in areas into Monday morning as a secondary storm strengthens offshore. We all see temperatures plummet as our first true winter-like week sees temperatures struggle to rise out of the mid 30s Tuesday.

Showers continue to push northward this morning, and I remain optimistic for a bit of a lull for most of the region into the early afternoon. Winter Weather Advisories posted for the North Country, with the concern being the possibility of a glaze of ice, will expire by noon with rising temperatures.

The next 36 hours will feature significantly different temperatures from northwest to southeast. The Adirondacks will struggle to rise above 40 today, which southeastern areas have the chance to climb into the mid 50s. Skies will remain cloudy with on and off showers.

We all have the chance for some evening showers, but what is perhaps a bit more significant is a batch of more widespread, locally heavy rain – especially along and east of I-87 – which has a greater chance of lingering through the Monday AM commute the farther east you find yourself.

Once again, huge temperature spread overnight. The cold air that awaits all of us will break out prior to daybreak to the northwest, where temperatures should drop into the 20s. Meanwhile, I don’t expect many to fall too far lower than 40 to the southeast of Albany.

Any morning rain should taper by lunchtime. As the colder air continues to filter in and a breeze picks up late out of the west-northwest, upslope showers are expected – mainly rain in the valleys, snow showers in the hill and mountains.

Highs will struggle to climb above freezing Monday to the northwest, meanwhile temps have the opportunity to climb to near 50 degrees to the southeast.

The cold air will be at its coldest Tuesday, where morning temperatures in the 20s will work in tandem with a gusty wind to create wind chill values in the teens and low 20s early Tuesday. Winds could gust upwards of 30 MPH Tuesday. These winds will be blowing out of the west-northwest off of the Great Lakes, so a lake response is in the forecast. The air mass in place will be so cold that anything precip that falls Tuesday will be in the form of snow.

Accumulations are not expected for the valley floor as high temperatures climb into the 30s to near 40 degrees, but a few inches of snow are possible to the northwest. Temperatures will moderate towards the middle of the work week with highs in the 40s for most on Wednesday. The breeze, while a bit lighter than Tuesday, should stick around through Friday. Skies will remain rather cloudy, with occasional rain and snow showers.

It’s not until Saturday where I think we reintroduce meaningful sunshine and dry weather. After a gloomy, chilly week, it will be nice to welcome back the sunshine by next weekend!
