The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:

The sunshine is sticking around, this time heating us close to, if not above, the 80 degree mark this weekend and into early next week. Clouds and the chance for late-day rain returns Tuesday ahead of a cold front, which will bring in seasonable temps for the end of the 7-Day Forecast

A few high clouds will be present in our skies today, particularly up in northern areas closer to a system passing us by in southern Canada. It will otherwise be sunny, with temperatures pushing 80 degrees and light winds.

Tonight, temperatures will fall quite a bit compared to the afternoon highs, but will generally remain on the milder side for early October. Many will struggle to drop below 50 tonight. Is “struggle” the correct word to use there? I’m sure many won’t mind a Saturday evening in October that will stay quite comfortable the entire time.

We need to watch out, much like this morning, for some areas of patchy fog early Sunday, otherwise I think it’s somehow even brighter for the second half of the weekend. It’s warmer too – if you fail to reach 80 today, I am pretty confident the overwhelming majority of you reading this will reach that value, if not higher, on Sunday. I’m forecast 83 for Albany. While unseasonably warm (17 degrees above average!), the record high is a miraculous 91 degrees set back in 1941.

Highs will be very similar (perhaps a degree or so cooler) on Monday as we remain mostly sunny. After a sunny start on Tuesday, cloud cover will increase from northwest to southeast ahead of an approaching cold front. Some rain will accompany this frontal boundary as well, which looks to start filtering into our northwestern regions (ADKs, Mohawk Valley) prior to sunset, continuing to overspread the region overnight into early Wednesday morning.

The upper level ridging responsible for the unseasonably warm conditions will break down gradually as the work week begins, opening the door for the surface cold front to move through Tuesday night.

It will turn breezy, with those winds bringing in more seasonable air, Wednesday as skies trend mostly sunny for the PM hours. I don’t expect the showers to linger too long Wednesday morning, wrapping up last well southeast of Albany. Despite abundant sunshine Thursday, temperatures are going to struggle to get out of the 50s! Another strong ridge of high pressure looks to keep us mostly sunny as we close out the upcoming work week, with a gradual increase in high temperatures expected.
